Utopium at All Tomorrows Parties.
Utopium have just completed both weekends of All Tomorrows Parties 2007 summer festival, “Dirty Three” and “ATP v the Fans”.
This was the second festival Utopium have lit for All Tomorrow Parties after also supplying all the lighting for the hugely successful “Nightmare Before Christmas” festival in late December last year.
Since the festivals moved to there new home at Butlins Minehead they’ve gone from strength to strength, with this year’s “Nightmare Before Christmas” now being planned, with Portishead already confirmed to headline the main stage.
This summer’s event saw the main stage move to Butlins’ skyline pavilion, providing a greater capacity venue for the ever increasing demand.
As the gig attracted headline acts including Nick Cave, Grinderman, Eco and the Bunnymen, Patty Smith and Mogwai to name but a few, the main stage demanded a large and challenging technical spec.
Alongside the in house rigging, Utopium supplied a separate eight legged Ground support truss system to accommodate the extra lighting required by such headline acts.
Installing the truss that measured sixteen meters by four meters and climbed to a height of a little under ten meters, was no easy task, but coupled with the huge lighting rig, as well as the installation of two other venues on site, the job became mammoth.
With a team of Utopium Riggers working round the clock, the whole technical side of the event was installed and working in under three days.
The lighting design featuring primarily generic lighting (a refreshing break from the more common moving light rock and roll rigs) the rig was reminiscent of lighting from early stadium concerts, with row upon row of Parcans, Strobes and Crowd blinders, creating a great atmosphere for the bands and audience alike.
