The GQ 'Man of the Year' awards were held on Tuesday 4th September at the world famous, Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London. Utopium supplied all the lighting for the venue, lighting 3 areas for the awards. 2 runs of 50ft truss down each side of the room created a atmospheric look across the tables and stage for the award ceremony itself. 50 par cans, 20 Source 4's and 12 Mac 500's created the look with slow colour fades and costumised GQ gobos being sent slowly around the room. The GQ stage logo was backlight by chroma strips, with the building characteristics being uplight by 'Howie battens'. All control was from an Avolites Pearl 2004. For the after party, a chillout lounge was created with Robe 250's and perspex pillars with Palco 3 inside them. These created nice colour changes that kept the mood bright and airy. The normal florescent lights in the building itself were coloured up as well to keep everything colourful. This area was all controlled by a wireless DMX system linked to the dance room control desk. The third room was a dance room, with more Robe 250's and Pin spots. 3 mirror balls and over 20 chroma strips around the seating. This was all accompanied by a 6x6 LED panel dance floor. This was all controlled from the lighting desk, so many colours could be created in this room. Control was again from an Avolites pearl 2004. The balcony was lit by 40 Chroma LED Pars and 30 chroma spheres, these were intersected by 15 Flame Trays. To view some pictures of the event, please click here.
