Radio 2 Live In Blackpool

Utopium Lighting where asked to light numerous shows for this year’s Radio 2 Live in Blackpool.

With a very tight schedule, Utopium Lighting was tasked with lighting five stages featuring artists such as Madness, Will Young, Mica, Daniel Merryweather, Athlete, Pixie Lott, Newton Faulkner, JLS, Tony Christie and the Radio 2 Big Band Orchestra.

Production manager, Ian Evans, and lighting designer, Stu Farrell, had the challenge of creating a different look to suit the eclectic range of artists with limited time for turnarounds.

Ian Evans said,

“A sterling effort by our excellent crew was required to allow us to complete five load-ins and five load-outs in four days. We also had to operate each show using the same pool of equipment as transported by Utopium Lighting in-house trucking department, which enabled us to complete the schedule.

“Some clever design work by Stu Farrell helped with the smooth transition of equipment from stage to stage and a positive attitude from our crew meant that all rigs came in and out on schedule and exceeded our client’s expectations.”
